sfz) was a format made by René Ceballos (RGC Audio). Along with the SoundBlaster cards, there were some sample editors and players able to play sf2 files. I guess the idea was to make this the industry standard instrument/sample format. The updated SoundFont 2 format was created 1996, extension. sbk) was made by E-mu and Creative Labs mid-90s and was used especially by SoundBlaster sound cards.

So nice, so many free font players nowadays, coming at a time when any good synth can make the sound of practically any instrument anyway without too much trouble. I know that sforzando will instantly convert sf2's when you drop them on it. Can't remember but it might play both sf2 and sfz files? Of course, you can always go over and free signup at Beat magazin and download the free Zampler and/or Zampler Rx. Don't know what improvements might have been made to this latest SFZ+, but I assume it must be more user and DAW-friendly by now. Free Players such as Plogue's sforzando and the Garritan version that comes with Finale and their Personal Orchestra and their other soundfont collections are so stable and easy to use that I don't mess with others these days. and the commercial ones are quite good, too.)īack to SFZ+, I'm sorry to say that plugin has acted up on me in at least two hosts, one being Reaper, so bad I had to get rid of it.

(Note: If interested, both Rapture and Dim Pro have gone on sale for as little as $20 each. After all, I own and am a devotee of Z3TA+2 and Rapture, so why not? A friend has Dimension Pro and loves that as well. SFZ+? Don't know about the "Professional" tag on it as mentioned above here, but long ago I really tried to like SFZ+. As said, it's still kicking around if you search. That came out when those folks were, so that may be why it isn't at Cakewalk. Someone wants Triangle II?! What a cool older synth.
